i agree hope90.. if we need to talk about something it should be in mod section .

no disrespect to anyone but SB is no place to argue in. we as mods must set an example and at times i find somethings said in SB are not proper for mods to be saying .if we say inappropriate things in SB or show little respect for members it sets a bad example to all

I apologise for "arguing in sb"
But if I recall correctly i did initially suggest that the matter be discussed privately in the staff section........but hardly anybody seems to take notice of my suggestions lol.

I suppose it's because I should be doing what I'm told to do........from several different sources.

Oh well, i won't be banning any members from now on.........only spambots, ppl that post porn, advertising and erotic games.

I think the real problem here is that the requests for banning an IP isn't being confirmed. Here's user 'xyz' already banned [and no one says he shouldn't be banned... repeated spamming... phishing links... whatever]. Then we find out from the same IP he's reregistered and continues his posts for which he was banned before.

Are we banning IP's or not?

What about members repeated disregard of the rules? We send them a polite pm about posting in the correct section and using the correct icon. Then we see more posts from them and all our time is taken editing post icons and moving their posts.

It gets old. I don't say it's right, it's not. But I can understand some of the mods here getting fed up with having to edit and move when what we should be focusing on is getting rid of the phishing, fake posts and porn/spam posts.

I ask again. Are we banning IP's or not? And I mean those IP's that really should be banned.

It seems I hijacked the thread. It was about using the sb. Sorry.

    I don't use msn.
I've always used staff section for communications.........and for private staff chats i'm use to using a private tab function in shoutbox.

Since the shoutbox here doesn't have a private chat function i have to rely on staff reading my posts in the staff section :/

I might as well throw in my 2 cent worth....The most important thing to a sucsessfull forum is comunication amongst the staff members. Im always on MSN at mmenard3@hughes.net give me a yell if you want to chat about site or just shoot the shit

Thanks, custer. The way I see it, a PM is not going to be given much attention. And the other mods can't see that they were warned. That is why I give an infraction. The next mod that looks at their profile will see that they have been warned before. And after typing the reason for the infraction in the 'Message to User' box, I copy and paste that into the 'Administrative Note' box. This lets the next mod see what the infraction was for. So if a person was warned about live links before and this time they used no post icon, maybe they could be given a little slack, as opposed to if they used live links again. Please use the 'Administrative Note' box this way (a suggestion). I've seen things like 'posting rules' and 'hope90' there and that tells me nothing about what that infraction was for.

This is all just my suggestion, I'm not trying to make it sound like a rule. I just think it would be helpful to know what prior infractions were for and that the member had received a warning, which won't happen with an email.

Well, in my section the problem members constantly ignore posting rules........and lots of them (rules).
I've stopped issuing infractions and warnings now........i just trash their threads as punishment.
Because many members are breaking many of the posting rules for my section, it was taking me a long time to deal with them all, telling them exactly what they did wrong and posting a link to the games section rules.
I gave up eventually.......because even when i was giving warnings and infractions, and they'd get auto-banned for it after a while......."new" members would turn up doing the same thing all over again.
It's because anybody can setup a proxy if they want to, and just keep breaking rules :/

By trashing the threads and not giving infractions, no one else knows that they are a problem person. I've seen lots of members with trashed threads and no reason why. Now I know. An infraction lets other staff know, so if they run into a problem with them, they can better decide if they need to be banned. I keep a text file handy that includes most of the rule violations listed - "Please post in proper section. Read the rules!" That way I don't have to type it every time. And I also put that in Administrative Notes so the next staff who reads the member's profile knows exactly what the infraction was for. Would be nice if everyone did that. 'hope90' or 'rules violation' in Administrative Notes does no good.

Well, thats just how i conduct my business.
I haven't got time to waste 2, 3 or more hours every day just giving infractions to ppl and fixing there posts.
I just trash them 'cos they post a couple of pages in my section every day.Any normal person would stop and think if their threads disappeared, but some ppl seem to act more like machines, and just keep posting :/

If any other mods would like to enforce my section rules feel free to do so, but make sure you've read them thoroughly and know exactly how strict they are.
If in doubt use my own threads as a guide to what is acceptable.........and i think you'll find the members that follow my posting rules are smaller in number than the ones that ignore them lol.

The main games section had over 2000 pages when i first started.......and i've cleaned it all out as best i can for the time being (theres always going to be some old threads i haven't checked thoroughly).........and i'm not going to let any members try to get it back to the mess it was.
I trash their threads, but i rarely infract them or ban them........they should be thankful and try to use their brains a bit imo.
